The 2024 Honoring Elders series continues with a special tribute to Christine Heard, honoring her many contributions as a member of the Wendell Selectboard, Swift River School staff, Dollars for Wendell Scholars leader/organizer (and much more). If you do know Christine, please join us on May 21 to share stories, experiences and laughs. And if you know her less well or not at all, please come to honor and appreciate one of our community elders whose efforts have helped shaped our Wendell world (and beyond). This event is free, funded in part by a grant from the Wendell Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. (And please save the date also for future Honoring Elders events on June 25, July 30, September 10 and October 15.)

(NEW) May 23, 7:00-9:00 pm – Circle Dance with Andres & Maxi from Chile (organized with Gwyn Peterdi)
Join us for a special evening of Circle Dance with Andres and Maxi from Chile, very special teachers who are here for their first time in the USA. Circle Dance increases our joy, sense of community and connection, and nourishes our body and soul with a mix of ancient and modern dances from diverse cultures. This is a participatory dance where all dances will be taught and you do not need a partner. By donation.

June 1, 10:00 am – First Saturday All-Levels Yoga (Rebecca Rice)
Please join us for an all-levels, 75-minute, uplifting class to compliment the season and to bring union to the breath, mind and body. This is a vinyasa kundalini inspired class, aimed at supporting alignment – yoga, breath work and meditation. Whether you are new to Yoga, or have been practicing for decades, this class will help you to pursue your own growth, meet you where you’re at, and help you get where you’re going. Bring a friend! Suggested donation of $3-5. 

(NEW) June 1, 4:00 – 10:00 pm – ZG Low Key Reggae
Reggae-themed DJs and live musicians come to the Wendell Meetinghouse! Listen and groove to the sounds of Green Lion Crew, DJ Bud E. Green, I Ganic Sound System and Sattasound. Non-alcoholic event, public of all ages welcome, minors please come with an adult. Non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available. Free, donations welcome.

June 21, 6:30-8:30 pm – Goodness Shakes, Wendell Dance Party
Join us for Wendell’s new freestyle Dance Party, organized by an energetic and talented team (Seal, Cori, Shell, Ezell and Deb T) as a fun way to connect with community, enjoy inspiring DJ’d music, and dance in this safe and welcoming space. Suggested donation $5-15 (no one turned away). No shoes/indoor shoes, alcohol-/substance-free, all ages (including supervised dancing kids) welcome, please come for opening circle at 7. Snacks and water available. (Note – this month, this dance will be 3rd week of the month; we’ll return to 2nd Fridays in the fall, starting September 13.)

June 29, 7:00-9:00 pm – Community Contra Dance
At long last! A Community Contra Dance featuring Annika Amstutz, fiddle; Steve Howland, caller; Becky Hollingsworth, piano, and friends. Sit-ins welcome! All dances taught; no previous dance experience necessary. Accessible to all, no matter how many left feet. Multi-generational activity appropriate for all ages. Admission by donation, with half of any funds going to the Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse.
